DescriptionAssam is state in far eastern India. It shares borders with Bhutan and Bangladesh. It was a prosperous region in the trade route system from ancient times. The Ahom kings expanded and solidified their control in the 16th century, holding off the Mughals, but succumbing to the Burmese late in the 18th century. The Burmese were expelled by the British, who installed a puppet of the Ahom line.
